Dumpling festival is around the corner, lunar date : 5th of May and it is also great granny's 4th death anniversary.
Great granny could be 97 this year if she is still around. She was one great super woman who greatly affected my life. She was kind, justice, decisive, independent and with an air of authority. She was well respected and was always the "chairwoman" in important events.
During our younger days, our parents were busy with their business and we were left to the care of our great granny. She made sure that we were well-fed and disciplined. I can still remember that during our primary school days, great granny would bring us downstair to wait for the school bus early in the morning (it was real dark) and pick us at the end of the day. There was an incident when she fell into the drain while waiting with us for the school bus, poor great granny, think she was about 70 years old then.
Great granny's favourite past-time was to bet 4-D. During weekends, great granny would take a bus to Bedok interchange to buy her 4-D. I remembered that she did not like to Q-up. She would cleverly use her seniority and jump-Q, so smart of her. Most important of all, she was one lucky woman who always strick prizes.
When we are much grown-up, Great granny was actively participating activities organised by the CC & RC. She was still very active until she was around 88 years old.
Her health deteriorated and she was required to stay in a home during her last few years.
Her teachings, beliefs and story of her life has greatly affected all of us in the family.
We miss you so much Great granny, Ah Bak.
