A VISIT TO ISTANA (3)

A VISIT TO THE ISTANA (2)

A VISIT TO THE ISTANAN (1)

Every Labour Day, daddy would plan an outing for the family. This year, 01/05/2007, we decided to make a trip to the Istana as there was a open house. When Ryan was told of the outing, he was thrilled and wished that President Nathan could be at the Istana waiting for him.
Wow, it was a first for all of us, my mum, sister, b-i-l, Ron, Ryan, daddy & me. The trees were strong and beautiful, the greenary were so well kept and the flowers looked like they were smiling and welcoming to all who were present. There was even a swan lake in the Istana, with graceful swans, it was so beautiful.
The kids were attracted to the playground. Ryan and Ron were busy washing hands and playing at the fountain area. Inside the Istana, visitors were impressed by the gifts from all over the world. Outside the building, visitors were busy taking photos and capturing their precious moments.
It was indeed and enriching experience and we have decided to visit the Istana again when it next open-house for its visitors and hopefully we have the honour to meet up with President Nathan.

RYAN'S ACTIVITIES (2)

Well, the other day, Ryan and I chanced upon a packet of DIY 'Crystal Mining' at NTUC. Ryan, being an avid reader of anything to do with geographical, made sure that his mum bought him the packet before leaving the supermarket.
He started his crystal mining activity the moment we reached home. The packet had a detailed instruction on mining and a good descriptive on crystals and rocks. For a child, the 'artificial' mining was interesting. The process of digging, sawing, scrapping, cleaning was more than a play thing. As a matter of fact, it was real work. Ryan imagined himself being an archaeologist or a volcanoist (??) and wanted to mine the biggest crystal. It took him more than 3 hours to mine about 4 pieces of crystal-like rock from that big square rock , such patience is seldom found in him. After which, we need to surf the net for him to find out more on different types of rock and crystals.
Now he has a collection of stones and rocks with different texture, colouring and clarity.
My comment : Do not underestimate 'plaything' of today, they are SO EDUCATIVE ! Kid's desire for knowledge is so strong.

GATHERING PHOTO

GATHERING

Have always wanted to organise a gathering with old pals from Temasek Secondary and finally had it actioned last Saturday. It was a real success.
Everyone turned up at my place for a BBQ gathering. Ah Kow & Karina, Chow mei gong, wife & little Anthea, Miao, pretty Ah girl, Handsome Ting Le and Rui Rui, Sock Ling, Sweet Charlotte & Little Malcom, Wei Lee, Simon and their wonderful offspring - Ashley & Dawn and not forgetting my precious Ryan.
We had a great time reminiscing the good old days when we were 13 ~ 16. Wei Lee was the first person whom I got to know when I was in class 1/8. I can still remember the 'jian mian li' she gave me - a girl figuring. Till today, she still pampers me with her wonderful gifts and cards. She used to visit me at my place and even tasted the food that my great granny cooked.
Sock Ling is another treasure. We went through thick and thin and are as close as sisters. Can still remember her 13th birthday party, so girlish kind of things which I think girls during our time did. Still remember our form teacher Mr Azman, that fatty, specky, Malay sir? Remember our geography lessons conducted by Mr Phua (that super fierce teacher who smoked cigar / smoke pipe and bang boys against the wall when they misbehaved ?), literature lesson on English poems and the book 'Charlotte's Web' and most memorable of all - our Chinese lesson conducted by Fang de lao.
Now both ladies are / were : respectful teacher, ex-teacher (or domestic manager)
Think our Sec 1 classs was the most notorious in the school. Amazingly, we were in the quitest class when we were in Sec 2 and taken care by our form teacher - ET.
Brainy Kah Chin, Sharp as razor blade Siang Chuan, Fluent Kheng Siang and other 'animals' were the life of the class. Science, mathematics, chinese lessons were memorable. Being a super KS student, I remember reading the chinese dictionary and chinese cheng yu dian in order to perform well in the subject. So nerd!!
Can you still remember our bio teacher - Miss Foo ?? our chemistry teacher - Mrs ?? Remember the numerous BBQs at East Coast park ? Oh yes, there was even a trip made to Pulau Ubin, remember ?? Hey and there were so many more. The memories just keep flashing & flooding into my mind and I wish I can have them mentioned one by one in this blog (haha, think this topic will be endless)
Now, these 3 people whom I have mentioned are top banker, Professional IT specialist and successful businessman. Don't play play ok.
How I wish we can meet up with the rest of the PEOPLE like Penny Low, Chan Mun Kit, Kopi chai, Pei Ji Xiong, Rabbit, Eu Seng, Derek Chan, Yap Lee Hong, Slyvia, Chua Ling Ling, Goh Kwee Hoon & many more !!
All the caterpillars have turned into beautiful butterflies.
Pals, may I wish you success in life and I hope this friendship continues till our golden years.
Cheers !!
